§ 16. Mr. Lawsonasked the Secretary of State for Energy when he expects the NII to give safety clearance for the SGHWR stations at Torness and Sizewell.
§ 17. Mr. Hannamasked the Secretary of State for Energy whether the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate has completed its investigations into the safety and reliability of the SGHWR.
§ Mr. EadieSafety approval is a continuing process, starting with design and running through and beyond a nuclear station's operating lifetime. The Chief Inspector of Nuclear Installations does not see any fundamental difficulties in giving SGHWR safety clearance. But it is for the generating boards to submit the detailed evidence needed for the granting of nuclear site licences at Sizewell and Torness. They have already provided some of the information to the Inspectorate.
§ 41. Mr. Wigleyasked the Secretary of State for Energy whether he has any firm plans for the construction of further nuclear power stations in Wales.
§ 44. Mr. Mayhewasked the Secretary of State for Energy what proposals he has 306W for authorising the construction of a further nuclear power station; whether it is his intention that any such power station shall be sited at Dungeness; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. EadieThe initial steam generating heavy water reactor programme of 4,000MW will require two stations, one at Sizewell and the other at Torness. The CEGB applied in January 1974 for consent under Section 2 of the Electric Lighting Act 1909 for the construction of a nuclear station of 3,900MW at Dungeness. This application is in abeyance until a further programme of nuclear generation is adopted.
