asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he has now concluded his preliminary inquiry into the loss of the "Compass Rose".

My inspector's inquiries are still continuing. The French Government have also appointed an inspector to investigate, and he is expected to visit this country shortly for discussions.

I understand that the French Foreign Ministry has given instructions to their ambassador in Panama to make representations to the Panamanian Government about the need for a formal inquiry into the loss of the vessel.
