§ Mr. Molloyasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will supply figures showing, in grades, deficiencies in the establishment of the Metropolitan Police and measures being undertaken to improve recruitment.
§ Dr. SummerskillOn 30th June 1975 there was a deficiency of 421 sergeants and 5,291 constables. There was no deficiency in approved posts above the rank of sergeant. A wide range of measures continues to be taken to promote recruitment to the Metropolitan Police, and£200,000 has been allocated during the current financial year for that purpose. The force also benefits from the national police recruitment campaign, for which£765,000 has been allocated during the same period. The strength of the Metropolitan Police increased by 91 during the first six months of this year.
