asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether the retail price of milk is likely to be increased in the near future.

Mr. Bishop

The maximum retail prices of milk will be increased by 1p per pint from Sunday 3rd August 1975. This increase is necessary in order to contain the cost of the milk subsidy within the provision available in the food subsidy programme. It will help to finance the increase in the guaranteed price paid to producers following this year's annual review and increases in the cost of milk distribution, including the effect of wage settlements earlier this year. The mileage allowances payable to officers of the Department for using their private motor vehicles on official business are made at either a standard rate or a public transport rate. Standard rate is payable for vehicles covered by fully comprehensive insurance. Public transport rate is payable when only third party insurance is effected and for particular journeys that do not qualify under the rules for payment of the standard rate. The allowances are determined by the engine capacity of the vehicle and not by the grade or seniority of the officer. The rates are as follows:
