§ Mr. William RossThe latest figures available of elderly persons living alone in Scotland are based on a 10 per cent. sample drawn from the 1971 Census. These indicated that 24.3 per cent. of the population between pensionable age and 75 years, and 31.4 per cent. of the population aged 75 or over, were living alone.
