Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State Employment how many civil servants are employed in his Department; what is the total cost of running the Department for the latest year for which figures are available; and if he will itemise the main constituent costs.

16,560 non-industrial and industrial civil servants were employed in my Department at 1st April 1975.

The estimates of staff salaries, etc., for 1975–76 published in the Supply Esti- mates 1975–76 total £29,507,000, net of Appropriations in Aid, made up as follows:
