Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Trade how many civil servants are employed in his Department; what is the total cost of running the Department for the latest year for which figures are available; and if he will itemise the main constituent costs.

7,369 non-industrial and industrial civil servants were employed on 1st April 1975.

The estimates of staff salaries etc. for 1975–76 published in the Supply Estimates 1975–76 total £13,818,000—net of Appropriations in Aid—made up as follows:
