HC Deb 04 July 1975 vol 894 c571W
Mr. Morgan

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will take steps to ensure that the height of the television relay mast at Bettws-y-Coed is sufficiently increased to enable BBC and ITV television programmes to be received, and, in those cases where programmes are currently received, to improve such reception in the areas of Pentrefrelas, Nebo, Ysbyty Ifan, Rhyddyan, Glasfryn and Cerrig-y-Drudion.

Mr. Alexander W. Lyon

No. The broadcasting authorities, who are primarily responsible for improving the coverage of their UHF television services, tell me that increasing the height of the Bettws-y-Coed mast would not necessarily provide satisfactory reception in all the places mentioned, would create interference problems for UHF services over a wide area, and would be prohibitively expensive in relation to those who might benefit.
