asked the Secretary of State for Defence what was the total cost of British assistance to Egypt to clear the Suez Canal.

Mr. Judd

The normal operating costs of the units involved are borne by the Ministry of Defence. A final figure for the additional costs is not yet available, but for the first and major phase of the operation they were just over £190,000.
