HC Deb 29 January 1975 vol 885 c207W
Mr. Kenneth Clarke

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will make a statement setting out the Government's proposals for the construction of the remaining sections of the M42 motorway; and when he intends to hold a public inquiry into the proposed route for the Castle Donnington section of that motorway.

Mr. Carmichael

Subject to the satisfactory completion of the statutory processes and the availability of funds at the time, it is hoped to start work on the Water Orton length of the M42 in the spring of next year. It is too early yet to forecast when work will begin on the remainder of the motorway. My right hon. Friend hopes to make an announcement in a few months' time about further progress on the Castle Donnington section.
