HC Deb 21 January 1975 vol 884 cc321-2W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the estimated number of gallons of milk, and the estimated value of such milk, which was lost by dairy farmers in each week since the beginning of the unofficial milk strike; and what compensation will be made available by the Government to milk producers who were unable to sell their milk.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

Reliable estimates cannot be provided at this stage.

No Government arrangements have been made for compensation. The Milk Marketing Board for Northern Ireland has announced a scheme whereby all Northern Ireland milk producers will share the losses incurred by individual farmers unable to market their milk as a result of the unofficial strike.
