Ian Paisleyasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether, following the resolution passed by the Londonderry Division of the British Medical Association supporting mass resignation from the Northern Ireland Health Service, he will make proposals designed to meet the points made by the association.
§ Mr. MoyleThere is no present threat of mass resignations in Northern Ireland, though the Northern Ireland Council of the British Medical Association has advised consultants to work to contract. With the long-standing agreement of the profession, doctors in Northern Ireland are paid the same rates as doctors in Great Britain. Resolution of the present difficulties in Northern Ireland will thus depend on whatever settlements are reached at national level, and I am keeping closely in touch with developments.
