§ Mr. Snapeasked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he plans any action to curb the quantity of Japanese imports into the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. DeakinsNo. In the first 11 months of 1974 imports from Japan comprised less than 2½ per cent. of total United Kingdom imports. To adopt discriminatory restrictions on imports from Japan would not only be in breach of our international obligations but also invite retaliation against our rapidly growing exports to Japan.
