§ Mrs. Renée Short
asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if she will issue salaried service contracts to dental practitioners who have qualified in Denmark for general dental practice within the National Health Service in designated areas; if she will embark on a recruitment campaign to bring to this country, under the EEC directives, dentists to fill the shortfall of British requirements; and if she will make a statement;
(2) if she will make arrangements for the British Embassy in Copenhagen to provide full information to qualified dentists in Denmark of practice opportunities in the United Kingdom in areas where National Health Service services have been eroded by private dental practice under the EEC directives.
§ Dr. Owen
Danish qualifications do not entitle dentists to practise in this country and no practice opportunities exist here at present for Danish dentists who do not possess a qualification recognied by the General Dental Council. Proposed EEC directives relating to the right of establishment and the mutual recognition of qualifications of dental surgeons have been before the Council of Ministers since 1969 but have not been discussed since the accession of the United Kingdom to the Community.
