asked the Secretary of State for Wales, if he will introduce proposals for democratic election for the chairmanship of the Arts Council for Wales.

The procedure for the appointment of the Chairman of the Welsh Arts Council is embodied in the Charter of the Arts Council of Great Britain which provides for the chairman to be appointed by the Arts Council of Great Britain, subject to my approval as Secretary of State. I see no reason for changing this arrangement at present.
