§ Mr. Mike Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Energy what is his Department's current estimate of the overall savings in energy and cost terms that will be effected by his energy conservation measures by 30th June 1975, allowing for the abnormally mild winter at present being experienced.
§ Mr. EadieBecause of the many different energy-saving activities which are being carried out at present in all sectors of the community, and the many different factors which influence them, it is not possible to distinguish and quantify the effects of the measures referred to by my right hon. Friend on 9th December. The level of energy consumption is, however, being regularly monitored. The complexities associated with energy accounting do not in any way diminish the importance of energy conservation and the contribution which energy savings can make to relieving our present balance of payments problems.
