For earlier dates the figures are for the old standard regions which were broadly similar to the old economic planning regions. The unemployment statistics for January 1975 have been obtained using a simplified counting procedure, and the percentage rates for January 1975, which are quoted in the table, should be regarded only as approximate indicators.
