§ 27. Mr. Brocklebank-Fowlerasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs why Her Majesty's Government have refused to make a contribution to the work of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research; and if this represents a change of policy with regard to its support for United Nations agencies.
§ Mr. EnnalsHer Majesty's Government pledged a regular annual contribution of £42,000 to UNITAR for the five-year period 1970 to 1974. Because of the urgent need to make economies it was decided, in the course of a review of all grants made by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to outside bodies, that the renewal of the grant to UNITAR could not be justified. This decision does not represent any change in our policy of support for the United Nations and its agencies.
