§ Mr. Wigley
asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the current cost in Wales of the rent rebates and allowances introduced under the Housing Finance Act 1972; and what proportion is borne by local authority tenants.
§ Mr. John Morris
The cost of rent rebates and rent allowances granted to 685W tenants in Wales in the financial year 1975–76 is estimated to be £12.4 million and £1.2 million respectively. The total cost of the allowance scheme is met by a Government subsidy, while 75 per cent. of the cost of the rebate scheme is met by a subsidy and 25 per cent. by a rate fund contribution. No part of the cost of either rent rebates or rent allowances is borne by local authority tenants through rents.
