§ Mr. Nottasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish figures of total public expenditure as set out in the Estimates, total Supplementary Estimates and actual outturn public expenditure for each financial year from 1964–65 to 1974–75, using a consistent price base for the figures for each year.
§ Mr. Joel BarnettSupply Estimates are for the cash requirements of the central Government which have to be voted annually by Parliament. Only about two-thirds of these cash requirements count as public expenditure as defined in the White Papers on public expenditure. The comparisons below are, therefore, confined to the public expenditure content of Supply Estimates. It would cost disproportionate time and effort to convert these figures to the same price basis.
