26. Mr. Jay

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what has been the visible trade balance of the United Kingdom with the rest of the EEC in 1975 to date; and what was the United Kingdom's total current balance of payments deficit with all countries in the same period.

42. Mr. Corbett

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what is the size of the United Kingdom's trade deficit with countries of the EEC on a balance of payments basis and seasonally adjusted to the latest date for which figures are available for 1975.

Mr. Shore

In the first nine months of 1975 the United Kingdom's visible trade deficit on a balance of payments basis with the other members of the EEC was £1,759 million. In the same period, the visible trade deficit with all countries was £2,523 million, and the current account deficit was £1,359 million.

35. Mr. Marten

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what percentage of the imports and exports, respectively, for the first nine months of the years 1974 and 1975, was with the EEC; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Shore

On a balance of payments basis, the proportion of our total imports arriving from the rest of the EEC was 35 per cent. in the first nine months of 1974 and 37 per cent. in the first nine months of 1975. Similar figures for exports are 34 per cent. and 31 per cent. respectively.
