Mr. Townsend

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, why he expects the A10 to M11 section of M25 to be open later than the M11 to A12 section, which went to public inquiry at the same time.

Mr. Marks

The statutory processes associated with the acquisition of land for the A10—M11 section of the M25, because it affects the fringe of Epping Forest, are likely to take longer than those for the adjoining section from the M11 to the A12.

Mr. Townsend

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment why no preferred line has yet been proposed for the Micklefield Green—Hunton Bridge to the Al section of the M25, in view of the fact that public participation on possible routes was completed in 1974.

Mr. Marks

Consideration of alternatives put to the Department in the course of the public consultation has delayed the selection of the preferred route, but my right hon. Friend hopes to announce this next spring.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, why he does not expect the M25 from Egham to Maple Cross to be open until after 1982, in view of the fact that public participation on possible routes was completed in 1974.

Mr. Marks

Because of the time needed for surveys and detailed design work on the preferred route, the subsequent statutory processes and the construction of the road itself.

Mr. Townsend

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will seek to expedite the construction of the M25 from Swanley to Sevenoaks in order to minimise the period when westbound traffic from Dartford Tunnel and the remainder of the M25 are forced to use the A225.

Mr. Marks

The construction of the M25 London Outer Orbital Route already has the highest priority.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment why he does not expect the M25 from the A10 to the MI1 to be open until after 1980, when the public inquiry into the proposals has already taken place.

Because of the time needed for the completion of the various statutory processes, including the acquisition of land in Epping Forest, and the construction of the road itself.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment why he does not expect the M25 from Micklefield Green—Hunton Bridge to the Al to be open until after 1982, in view of the fact that public participation on possible routes was completed in February 1975.

Because of the time needed for surveys and detailed design work on the preferred route, the subsequent statutory processes and the construction of the road itself.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will seek to expedite the construction of the M25 from Micklefield Green—Hunton Bridge to the Al in order to avoid a situation where the link from the remainder of the M25 to the M1 is incomplete, forcing traffic on to inadequate roads in the Hunton Bridge area.

Mr. Marks

It is hoped that the section of the M25 between Micklefield Green—Hunton Bridge and the A1 will be completed at about the same time as the section between Egham and Maple Cross. The situation envisaged by the hon. Member should not, therefore, arise.
