§ Mr. Viggersasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the locations at which radioactive waste has been dumped by way of disposal.
§ Mr. Denis HowellThere are two special disposal sites for solid radioactive waste; Drigg in Cumbria and Ulnes Walton in Lancashire. Together they total 260 acres. In addition low-activity waste which can safely be deposited on ordinary refuse sites is disposed of in this way, where necessary with appropriate precautions.
§ Mr. Viggersasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish in the Official Report a schedule showing the quantities and locations of 128W intended disposal of radioactive waste during the next 10 years.
§ Mr. Denis HowellAuthorisations to dispose of waste are given only when the need arises. The overriding consideration in granting an authorisation is the capacity of the environment to accept the radioactivity.
