§ Mr. Wigleyasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many training places are available at each of the Government's training centres in Wales; and what steps are currently being taken to increase the capacity or numbers of these centres.
§ Mr. Harold WalkerI am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that on 3rd December 1975 the following training places were available at skillcentres—formerly government training centres—in Wales:
54W
Cardiff Skillcentre 324 Cardiff Skillcentre Annexe, Tremorfa 56 Cardiff Skillcentre Annexe, Treforest 96 Llanelli Skillcentre 165 Port Talbot Skillcentre 355 West Gwent Skillcentre 187 Wrexham Skillcentre 139 Total 1,322 A new centre will open shortly at Newport which will eventually provide an additional 226 training places.
The training needs of Wales have recently been reviewed by the Training Services Agency. The existing skillcentre provision, together with additional facilities which will become available at Newport, should be sufficient to meet the demand for craft training in Wales.
