Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what would be the increase in the average rent for council housing in England and Wales at the present time for every £10 million reduction in subsidy to the housing revenue account.

Mr. Armstrong

5p a week unrebated or 4p a week rebated, if there were no increase in rate fund contributions to offset the reduction of subsidy.

Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what would be the average cost rent for council housing in England and Wales at the present time if no subsidy were provided either from the Exchequer or from the rate fund.

Mr. Armstrong

£7.46 a week unrebated.
