§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many personnel in his Department are engaged in agriculture, fisheries and food matters, respectively; and of those engaged in food matters, how many are engaged in furthering the food industry and how many in the administration and extension of controls.
§ Mr. PeartOf the total staff of about 15,600, about 11,000 are engaged in agriculture matters, including horticulture; 650 in fisheries and 700 in food matters. The balance are concerned with other functions or provide common services. Those concerned with food cover a range of functions in the general interests of the food industries, including the maintenance of standards and safety of food; about 150 staff are engaged on work arising from food subsidies on behalf of DPCP.
