My Department's statistics do not specifically measure jobs lost but some indication can usually be obtained by measuring changes in levels of employment in the industries 495W concerned between one year and the next. However, the employment statistics are analysed according to the minimum list headings of the Standard Industrial Classification and do not distinguish separately zip fastener manufacture, which forms only a part of two headings—that is, "Metal industries not elsewhere specified" and "Plastics products not elsewhere specified".
