HC Deb 07 August 1975 vol 897 cc505-6W
Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for Industry how many applications for industrial development certificates were refused in England in 1974; and how this figure compares with the figures for 1972 and 1973.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

The number of applications for IDCs in England which were refused were: 1972–53; 1973–89; 1974–66. However, the IDC exemption limits were raised in July 1972 and lowered in September 1974. The IDC control ceased to apply in development areas in July 1972. For these reasons the figures are not comparable.

Mr. Anthony Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what was the number of industrial development certificate applications refused in the non-assisted areas since February 1974 and the square footage and jobs so involved.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

The number and size of applications for IDCs in the non-assisted areas which were refused during the period 1st March 1974 to 30th June 1975 were 73 and 4,485,000 sq.ft., involving an estimated employment of 6,030. IDC exemption limits were lowered in September 1974. the Official Report figures showing the labour turnover in each of the Armed Services for each of the last five years for which figures are available.

Mr. Judd
