§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give details of all the motorway and major road improvement schemes (1) under construction, (2) with consent given and (3) planned for completion by 1980, in the county of Cheshire.
§ Mr. CarmichaelFollowing is the information:
Trunk road and motorway schemes now under construction are the Chester southern by-pass and the M6 Sandbach service area.
Planning permission is not required for motorway and trunk road schemes, since the enforcement provisions of the Town and Country Planning Act 1971 are not binding on the Crown. Subject to the satisfactory completion of statutory procedures under the Highways Acts 1959–1971 and the continuing availability of funds, the following schemes are planned for completion by the end of 1980:
- M56 Hapsford to Lea by Backford;
- A51 Chester to Tarvin;
- A54 Kelsall by-pass;
- A483 Chester Southern by-pass to the Welsh Border;
- A523 Macclesfield inner relief road;
- A5117 Dualling Lea by Backford to A550.
All schemes on non-trunk roads are the responsibility of the appropriate local highway authority.
