§ Mr. Woofasked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will make a statement on the progress of the Government's policy regarding inflation, wages and salaries, prices and the cost of living.
§ Mr. John FraserI would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given by my right hon. Friend to my hon. Friend the Member for Bolsover (Mr. Skinner) and the hon. Member for the City of Chester (Mr. Morrison) on 22nd April.—[Vol. 890, c. 1216–1219.]—Progress has been made on both the Government's side and the trade unions' side in fulfilling the social contract, which, among other things, covers the areas mentioned by my hon. Friend. But firmer adherence to the spirit of the TUC guidelines is certainly required if we are to avoid higher unemployment and curb inflation.
