§ Mr. Michael Lathamasked the Secretary of State for the Environment which provisions of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 have now been brought into operation; and if he can now say when he expects to bring into operation those sections which deal with waste disposal and the control of noise.
§ Mr. Denis HowellCommencement orders have been made in respect of Sections 43 and 44, dealing with the control of discharges into sewers, various supplementary provisions and certain of the amendments and repeals to other legislation listed in Schedules 3 and 4.
As envisaged in my hon. Friend's answer of 3rd February, discussions are now in progress with the local authority associations about the timetable for implementing Part I of the Act, which deals with waste disposal. Similar discussions have been completed on Part III dealing with noise and I hope that this part of the Act will be implemented before the Summer Recess.
