asked Her Majesty's Government:

For the most recent 12 months for which figures are available, how many contested cases there were at the Central Criminal Court, and in how many of them majority verdicts of guilty were returned in a second trial after the jury had disagreed in the first trial.

In the period from April 1974 to March 1975 there were 1,514 contested cases at the Central Criminal Court. In two of them majority verdicts of guilty were returned in a second trial.
