§ Dr. OwenThere are 70 beds in the advance unit of the planned new Park Lane Special Hospital and varying degrees of security provided by other psychiatric hospitals by a combination of staff supervision and/or locked wards or rooms. § Dr. OwenNo beds in psychiatric hospitals are specifically earmarked for offenders; patients concerned in criminal proceedings may, subject to the conditions set out in the Act, be detained, by order or direction made under Part V of the Mental Health Act 1959, in any psychiatric hospital which can offer treatment suitable to the needs of the patient in appropriate conditions.
