HC Deb 10 April 1975 vol 889 cc473-4W
Mr. Knox

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will provide approximate estimates of the increase in Government revenue that would result from an increase in excise duty of: (a) 5p on tobacco, (b) 5p on wines, and (c) 10p on spirits.

Dr. Gilbert

It is estimated that the additional duty and VAT revenue for the full year 1974–75 would have been about

£200 million on tobacco, £15 million on wine and £10 million on spirits.
