HC Deb 10 April 1975 vol 889 c456W
Mr. Jim Spicer

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what grants and loans have been approved for the South-West area from the European Social Fund since 1st January 1973.

Mr. John Fraser

Grants from the European Social Fund are not made specifically for particular areas of England. Some of our allocations are for the whole of Great Britain and a breakdown between regions is not readily available. The South-West area shares in the benefits from grants made in respect of national schemes of training, rehabilitation and resettlement.

The larger allocations are in respect of the development areas and a certain number of intermediate areas. The largest allocation since 1st January 1973 has been for the Training Opportunities Schemes; at a rough estimate about £750,000 of this was for the South-West area.
