HC Deb 07 April 1975 vol 889 c333W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) based on 1972 planning applications of 600,000 p.a., what effect upon the number of applications submitted he expects the Community Land Bill will have;

(2) based on 18,000 planning appeals in 1973, what increase he anticipates will occur following the implementation of phase one of the Community Land Bill.

Mr. John Silkin

I would not expect to see a repetition of the scramble to obtain planning permissions that occurred in 1972-73 when land speculation was at its height under the last administration.

Mr. Ashton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he is in a position to reply to the letter from the hon. Member for Bassetlaw regarding the planning application of Hermanns of East Markham, Newark.

Mr. John Silkin

I replied to my hon. Friend on 24th March.
