HC Deb 07 April 1975 vol 889 cc337-8W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the possibility of speeding the publication of Ordnance Survey's Second Series 1:25,000 maps which are now appearing at the rate of about 40 sheets a year.

Mr. Oakes

There is little I can add to the reply I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Stockport, North (Mr. Bennett) on 25th November 1974.—[Vol. 882, c. 84–5.] The production resources available to the Ordnance Survey are limited and faster progress with one series is likely to involve slower progress with others. The Department is hopeful that it may prove possible to make some small improvement in the rate of production of the 1:25,000 series if other work is rescheduled, and it is expected that the Director-General will be able to make a statement to this effect at the annual consultative meetings in November.
