asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish in the Official Report a table showing for each member country of the OECD the average amount paid in direct taxation by an industrial worker for each year since 1945.

The following information, which is taken from Revenue Statistics of OECD Member Countries 1965–72, Annexe I Table 6, shows the average rate of personal income tax paid by a taxpayer with average earnings of production workers in manufacturing in each country for 1972:
