HC Deb 07 April 1975 vol 889 c339W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is her estimate of the value to retirement pensioners whose mobility is not restricted by disability of free and concessionary travel; if she will examine ways of making equal provision for those who are unable to use public transport; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Alec Jones

No estimate can be made of the individual benefit, but the estimated overall cost in 1975/76 of concessionary fares schemes is about £35 million. I see no practicable way of making equal provision for those who are unable to use public transport.
