HC Deb 26 November 1974 vol 882 c98W
41. Mr. Dunlop

asked the Secretary of State for Defence why the Army presence has been withdrawn from Stewartstown and Coagh, County Tyrone.

Mr. Mason

The deployment of Army units within Northern Ireland is a matter for the GOC, who takes into account the security needs of the whole Province. Following recent force level reductions, units have been redeployed and the number of static military bases reduced, among them the two at Stewartstown and Coagh. However, security cover for both places is provided by extensive mobile patrols and a permanently manned base is maintained at Cookstown. These arrangements are kept under constant review.
