HC Deb 25 November 1974 vol 882 cc11-2W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many sheltered housing units there are per 1,000 population aged 65 years and over in each district council in Wales and in Wales as a whole.

Mr. Rowlands

The information is not readily available in the form requested. The following information is however available.

Number of sheltered housing units at 31st March 1974 by old-style county per 1,000 population aged 65 and over:

Anglesey 26
Brecon 2
Caernarvon 7
Cardigan 8
Carmarthen 4
Denbigh 6
Flint 11
Glamorgan 4
Merioneth 5
Monmouth 14
Montgomery 3
Pembroke 6
Radnor 22

The figure for Wales as a whole is seven per thousand population aged 65 and over. In addition, there are a further 1,137 dwellings under construction or in schemes net yet started; when completed these will bring the rates for the whole of Wales to 10 units of sheltered accommodation per 1,000 population aged 65 or over.
