HC Deb 21 November 1974 vol 881 c470W
44. Mr. Stanbrook

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will propose legislation to provide compensation for uninsured losses caused by terrorist action in Great Britain.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

No.

49. Mr. Lee

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement regarding the payment of compensation to persons suffering loss or injury arising from bomb incidents occurring in England.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

Those who suffer personal injury as the result of a bomb explosion or other violent crime in Great Britain may apply for compensation under the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme. As to loss or damage to property caused by criminal acts, the general principle has long been that the individual citizen should protect himself by insurance to the extent he considers it necessary.
