Mr. Hooky

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT the number of students accepted into colleges of education for initial teacher training in September 1973 and September 1974 and the proposed total intake for this purpose in September 1975, and each subsequent session to 1980.

Provisional numbers of students admitted to initial teacher training in colleges of education and departments of education in polytechnics are as follows:

Non-graduates 35.4 31.7
Graduates 5.8 5.1
Total 41.2 36.8

The numbers authorised for 1975 are 30,000 non-graduates and 6,900 graduates. Teacher supply policy for later years is under review.
