47. Dr. Boyson

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will take steps to implement the recommendations of the National Association of Schoolmasters on discipline in schools.

Mr. Armstrong

The association's recent report, which is being studied in my Department, is a useful contribution to consideration of the disciplinary problems being encountered in schools. The recommendations are not addressed primarily to my Department, but will be taken into account in consultations I shall be arranging with the bodies concerned.

48. Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what action he proposes to take to deal with the increasing violence in schools.

Mr. Armstrong

My Department is preparing a document which my right hon. Friend hopes can provide a basis for discussion of this and related matters with local authority and teacher associations and other interested parties.
