HC Deb 19 November 1974 vol 881 cc378-9W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the price of the best quality petrol in the principal capitals of the Community and in the case of Great Britain including the recent VAT on gasoline.

Dr. Gilbert

Taking octane ratings as a base, the best quality petrol in general use in the community is equivalent to 4 star petrol in the United Kingdom. The maximum retail price of 4 star petrol in the United Kingdom inner zone is 62½p per gallon from 18th November. The retail price of comparable grade of petrol in other EEC countries is as follows:

Pence per gallon
France (Paris zone) 74.5
Germany 66.5–74.0
Netherlands 72.3
Belgium 71.6
Luxembourg 59.8
Italy 87.6
Denmark 72.6
Republic of Ireland 50.8
