Mr. John H. Osborn

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is now the cost per ton of each of the main grades of coal and smokeless fuel, including coke; and how this compares with a year previously.

Cost data for the main categories of coal and smokeless fuels are not available, but National Coal Board average pithead realisations are set out below:

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the estimated increase in the price of coal next year that will result of the Budget proposals.

Mr. Eadie

Proposals for further price increases in the light of the Budget Statement have yet to be formulated by the industry. It is, therefore, impossible to give an estimate.
