Mr. Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the amount of fines paid during the last accountable period, compared with the figure for the corresponding periods of the last three years.

Receipts for the 12 months ending 30th June 1974 were £31,947,033. The corresponding figures for the years ending 30th June 1973, 1972 and 1971 were £28,036,378, £23,336,184 and £19,412,764.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the amount of fines outstanding for the last accountable period, compared with the amounts for the corresponding periods of the last three years.

Fines outstanding on 30th June 1974 were £11,731,689. Corresponding figures on the same dates in 1973, 1972 and 1971 were £9,718,428, £7,495,932 and £6,595,828. These figures, which exclude Inner London, include all fines, fees and fixed penalties then outstanding, whether or not the time allowed for payment had expired.

Mr. Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many cases were brought to the courts by the Crown for failure to pay fines during the last 12 months; and what were the figures for the corresponding three years.
