HC Deb 13 November 1974 vol 881 c151W
Mr. Body

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will list the items of food subject to an import levy or tariff.

Mr. Bishop

most food items are liable either to an import levy or a tariff, their application varying according to country of origin. In a number of cases, because of current world prices, no levy is at present being charged. In others, charges on agricultural imports are subject to reduction by the application of monetary compensatory amounts; in some instances, these completely offset the charge, and may operate as a net import subsidy. Full tariff details are contained in the Import Duties (General) (No. 8) Order 1973. Current information about rates of levy and compensatory amounts can be obtained from the Intervention Board for Agricultural Produce.
