Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Industry how many centres of industrial design there are in England, Scotland and Wales, respectively, and how many full-time staff are employed in each centre.

Mr. Meacher

The Design Council operates one design centre in England, one in Scotland and an office in Wales. The numbers of full-time staff currently employed are 265, 43 and two, respectively.

asked the Secretary of State for Industry how much money was spent by the Council of Industrial Design in England and Wales, respectively, in each year since 1970.

One full-time industrial design officer and one field officer are currently employed in Scotland by the Design Council.

The Design Council currently employs eight full-time industrial design officers and six field officers in England. In Wales there is one full-time field officer.
