HC Deb 08 November 1974 vol 880 c269W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many pupils in primary and secondary schools are on part-time education due to a shortage of teachers; and which education authority areas are most seriously affected.

Mr. William Ross

Education authority returns show that 536 primary pupils in Glasgow and Ayrshire and 39,624 secondary pupils in Glasgow, Dumfriesshire, Dunbartonshire, Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire were on part-time education on 7th October, the latest date for which information is available. Glasgow and Lanarkshire were the most seriously affected areas. In some cases the part-time education was not attributable to shortage of staff.
